ART + CODE
This website marries my two career paths, web development and illustration. Isn't that cool? By day I'm a professional web designer and developer at a small but successful design firm in downtown Philadelphia. I've always loved coding— I started when I was in 6th grade, we learned basic HTML in my computer class. It's hard to tell if I'd be into building websites if it wasn't for that experience!

I enjoy coding because I love math but don't get to do much of that in my daily life ever since going on an art career path. (This is coming from the gal who was so sad she tested out of all college math with her AP Calculus test scores, CRIES. My schedule was packed and I used those free credits to minor in Japanese but I'm sad I don't remember much calculus anymore... or Japanese for that matter. CRIES SOME MORE.) So, to me, coding stimulates that more logical/mathematical side of my brain that art doesn't. I love solving code challenges and making something function with mere letters in a text file.

ANYWAY. In my free time I try to do more creative art things, like drawing, making illustrations, planning a webcomic, etc. I used to be big into sewing and cosplay but that phase of my life is coming to an end, so I hope to focus more on advancing my art. I'm hoping this new portfolio website will help my prospects in this area.

ART THEFT
Also, to be honest, although I was planning on building a new site for a long, the task got put into high gear when I re-discovered a bunch of art theft for some of my illustrations. I wanted to have a portfolio site to link to, in additional to dA, as proof of my ownership over the image. I sadly have been going through pages upon pages of Google results of sites who have stolen my images and issuing email notices. I get the most angry at people who have cropped out my watermark and/or posted my images on "free clipart" websites, which exponentially exacerbates my problem...

I am working on a brand new website for my illustration and I'm excited to share soon!

This will likely be "Phase One" of the site, considering I've been putting it off for a while and just want to get something besides a splash page up there! (I took down my old site because it was just so archaic. And as a web developer, it was super embarrassing to me, hahah)

It's certainly been a while since I've updated here, but know that I've been trudging along with various artistic endeavors. I've been trying to put a lot of time into development of a webcomic, but unfortunately, it's unrelated to all the illustration work I do. I've always had trouble balancing my two styles of art and feel like I'm failing at both because they are so different and I just don't have the time to develop both.

Does anyone else experience this problem? I'd love to know how others are dealing with it. I don't see lots of people with two distinct art styles-- just one awesome one they focus on. I've thought of merging the two somehow but that's challenging and I don't want to fight the way I naturally draw too much. Does that make sense...?
